I think it's always easy to be suspicious of free plugins, despite all the positive reviews. Was interested to see that the guy making tape and distortion simulations on iOS for free is a Stanford researchers writing papers on the subject. Great little interview:


Bizarrely knowing that has made me appreciate them more, even though the actual sound hasn't changed.

    I like the ol' Airwindows Tape plug-in. It is great for mangling drum machine sounds. Their other stuff looks interesting too.
