I've just read that the horror and fantasy author Peter Straub has died, aged 79.  He's probably best known for his collaborations with Stephen King, particularly The Talisman.

I started reading King and Straub around the same time, in my late teens.  I can't remember which of the two I "discovered" first, but I carried on buying Straub's new books long after I'd stopped reading King's.  I thought I'd lost track of his recent work but, looking at his bibliography, it's been quite a while since he published a novel, I've actually read nearly all of them.

Sad news.  RIP.
