Sunface workalike. SOLD £50 including delivery.

Built using the Sunflower pedalpcb kit from musikding, which came with AC125 germanium transistors at the tested and appropriate hfe and leakage. It benefits from a voltage inverter which means it can be powered with the usual centre negative power supply like most other pedals. I also upgraded the Footswitch to the highly regarded soft touch Gorva brand one. It has the cleanup pot located on the outside instead of a trim pot inside which is an option on the originals and adds a lot of usability. The transistors have been socketed so they can be swapped out easily if desired.

note: while this sounds great as it is I haven't been able to quite get it to bias at the recommended 4.5v. There is lots of info online about how this can be achieved. I have socketed R1 and R2 to allow the use of different resistors to achieve the correct bias but I don't have time or various resistors to tinker with it unfortunately at the moment so I'm selling it at the price I paid for the parts.

To me it sounds excellent as it is and just like many other great fuzz face variants that I've owned previously, but it may be that someone in the know can make it sound even better.

That’s very kind. Thank you. I don’t really have the time to tinker with it though so would prefer to sell it as it is.

It’s actually a genuinely great sounding fuzz just as it is and still has all the germanium clean up etc. it’s certainly not miles out from where it should be biased. I’m probably being a bit too picky about it having read somewhere you should aim for 4.5v at the second transistor collector. (It’s around 5v according to my multimeter with the bias knob set to noon)

If I’d received it brand new from a company sounding like it does I wouldn’t think there’s anything off about it at all.

I wouldn't worry too much. If you move this bias to where it gets to 4.5 put a mark next to that.
And I think I watched a sun face tear down which was higher bias. Think it was Grey bench electronics.

  • Yeah like I said it does genuinely sound great as it is. Whoever gets it will be happy I’m sure.

I just wanted to be completely clear that it’s slightly over biased and it may be possible to make it sound even better with a little tweak.

I would have this if I wasn’t a little overstocked on FF pedals, the input gain is a revelation for anyone that hasn’t played with it in a sunface, transforms the pedal!

    Someone buy this.

Totally agree. Great pcb, great board. these are amazing and somebody will get a real deal.
