Noisy DI Bass

I look after the music room we have at work.
Alas we don't have a bass amp, So I have the bass going into an underfloor snake (standard TS cable).
It comes out of of the floor and into a 48V phantom powered DI box, into an XLR input on the Behringer X32 mixing desk.
Whilst the level is good, it sure picks up a lot of noise.
None of the other line level instruments that go through the same snake (keyboards, drums, etc) pick up the same level of noise.

Any ideas?

What pickups are in the bass? Is it shielded?

Can you not record the bass part with a short cable standing next to the desk? That's the easiest way.

What DI box are you using?

Not sure what it is. It was donated. It has two channels, with various dip switches for pad and phase.
I've tried bass direct into the desk, via the AUX ins but am not getting any sort of level out of the bass

Just thinking theres a lot of juice int aht chain so amybe your amplifyingthe signal from an active bass that isnt being powered.

Try it directly in a Mic input but start with the gain at zero and edge it up.

The signals from basses is not very high at all.

Put the DI in front of the snake and see

Assuming the DI needs to be at the end of the snake as the snake isn't balance cable. I'd try a buffer of some kind at the beginning of the underfloor cable (a buffered pedal, eg Boss, turned off would work) to 'drive' the signal more efficintly.
