@Zonular Brilliant, thanks for the additional information.

My big problem is I just want all of them!  =)
I did see a recording king on here for 80 pound, not bad at all

Alright so, roadtrip! All I will say is import tax is a pain, I'm likely to write off the UK retailers even though they probably offer the best ranges. Any one know any Euro city's that have great music shops?

@dave_mc I'm actually considering looking at the Yamaha range myself, if I'm letting this go as I feel you can never go wrong with Yamaha, second to that I'll revisit Faith (music maker in Dublin is stocking them again)

I'm not sure about the UK retailers, at least at the moment Moloney's seemed to have as good a range as any of the UK retailers I looked at, and probably better prices than most. MusicStore in Cologne seems to stock them, but I've never been so I have no idea what the actual shop is like.

Oh I should add, I do love a parlour guitar, if yer man is buying this back off me, I might go for a "higher end" parlour like the faith mercury.
I can't state how nice then recording king is in terms of size, it's just really comfy but it's got that vibe, it's the Delta blues machine

if I'm in the market again, I'll be after a dadgad/alt tuning guitar, I love some American primitive and Al petteway (I think that's how it's spelled) and Stephen Wake (check out his tune mouse in a mug)
Billy strings has pulled me into bluegrass, so do I just pickup a spruce topped dread and be done with it?

there's a YouTube channel run by a guy giving dadgad lessons called Aodan Coyne he's a big fan of a jumbo for session music! Which is a fly in the ointment but I don't play out, but having the ability is nice too

Haven't read tthe entire thread but Matchetts have some nice all solid Sigmas, as well as a few other makes in stock. Have you taken a trip to check them out?

I really wanted to like the Mercury (since they're so comfy to play), but when I tried a few of them (back when my sister was getting hers) I thought they were a bit middy-sounding for my liking (she thought the same). Maybe all parlours are like that, though!

I haven't messed with DADGAD or any alternative tunings really (drop D is about the height of it for me, on electric!).

Nope not yet, thanks for the info. They only really had Taylors the last time I was in (well a bunch of nice Lowdens, too, but they're way over my budget!).

Playing the recording king next to the dread is night and day, I had seen reviews of the mercury saying it wasn't as boxy as a normal parlour ...hmm I might have to rethink

Just to be clear- I'm not sure I've tried any other parlours! So it may well be less bad in that respect than a normal one!

(That's one of the reasons why, if I do get a parlour, I'm partial to that HB one- it's not too dear! I didn't really have anything against the Mercury, I did quite like it, just not enough for the price. I probably should have said above, "I really wanted to love the Mercury", not "I really wanted to like the Mercury".)

Thanks :) I've never managed to try a Larrivee, and also the prices have gone kind of crazy on them. I remember when I was first thinking about a nice acoustic years ago, you could get the D-03R for about £700 new! But I chickened out because I couldn't try them first. They're about double that now, maybe more.

I hear you... Got mine for £650 iirc about 10 years ago (OM-O2). Only a matter of time in their case, regardless of general cost of guitars going up.

Yeah agreed. As you rightly said, prices have largely gone up across the board... that being said, some brands have gone up crazy amounts even compared to the general increases.
