Has anyone tried an Atkin AJ jumbo?

There doesn't seem to be any stock in the UK (I believe they're a custom order).

I'm still looking for the ultimate maple jumbo. While I'm sure I'd be happy with a Guild F-55 or the right Gibson, I might be forever wondering what the Atkin jumbo is like. The demo video on their site is just 30 seconds of fingerpicking. Sounds wonderful, but how is it when strummed?

The Atkin D37 I picked up is simply the best rosewood dread I've played. The J43 I tried in the shop beats any other J-45 that's been in my lap. It stands to reason that I'd be similarly impressed with the AJ but there's no way I can order a guitar without trying one first.

Forsyths have an Atkin ASJ in last time I looked. That might give you an idea pre order if you can get to the store :)

@Mellish Thanks mate. The ASJ is more like an Advanced Jumbo I think, with a 16" lower bout. I'm after a big 17" bruiser.

Only stock I can find of the AJ is Musik Centre in Germany, a good price too. I'd be confident ordering an Atkin without trying the exact guitar, but I'd at least need to try a representation of the model first.

I'm sure Atkin will be at the Birmingham Guitar show in May but annoyingly I'm working all weekend and can't wiggle out of it!

How about you ask them to video themselves strumming on it?

Coda happily did that for me the other day for the Atkin Hawaiian Master they have.

    Certainly worth asking!

I think even a visit to Atkins themselves might be a possibility.  Give him a ring, he's very helpful.  They're somewhere in Kent I think?

@thebreeze He did tell me they were currently making an AJ and invited me down to try it out once completed, but I've since got a good deal on a secondhand Gibson SJ-200 Studio - I'm out of the market!

Ah, fair enough, enjoy it.  The only acoustics I've ever properly bonded with have been a Gibson Dove and this Atkin OM37 I bought last year.  I wanted to chat through nut and truss rod adjustment and found him really helpful when I rang him.  It's a great guitar.

I checked the exhibitors list on the guitar show website and there’s no mention of Atkin. Anyone know for certain if they’re going to be there?

@Warblington Hmm, they were definitely on the exhibitors list when I checked a few weeks back, but now it seems they aren't so imagine that they've pulled out.

Hi, they’ve just responded to me and unfortunately they are  not going to be there.
