WTB - "Nice" Strat pickups

edited March 2022 in Parts £
Im after a set of strat style pickups, for a Yamaha 12 string electric, that i want to up grade.
The pickups are currently Yamaha's A5 strat type, and although they make a noise like a guitar, they're about as exciting as a stale cream cracker.
Im looking for something with some sparkle that has a little body too
Not looking for anything thats to hot either
Im not looking for cheapo pickups (ive got 3 of them already) but i cant afford high-end boutique either
Liking the sound of Fender Fat 50's
Not really looking to spend more than £100
If i can help it.
Whats out there !

What is the fingerboard radius on your Yamaha XII?

I suspect that you will require pickups with flush rod magnet polepieces. This rules out Fender Fat 50s and Duncan Five-Two models. Instead, you would be looking at the Duncan SSL-2, APS-2 or noise-cancelling designs with gently arched polepieces.

I have a calibrated set of Oil City Masterwound Route 66 single coils with flush polepieces but I am unwilling to part with them for as little as £100. Sorry.

In recent weeks, I have been mostly enjoying two Alegree Old Timer Shimmer single coils and a Blazer rails li'l humbucker in a Cort G200. He does other models in this series. Check them out.
    Be seeing you.

Just realised you're only looking to spend 100 quid though.

Tonerider pickups could be well worth a look... You'll be at less than £100 for the set (even new) but I really wouldn't call them "cheapo". Let's just say I've had a couple of sets in my strat over the years and they've seen off fender 57/62s and a handwound set. I would never say they're better, but it's really fine margins.

Based on your needs, their Classic Blues could be worth looking into.

I have tone rider city limits in a Strat deluxe I bought from here. I intended to change them but they sound great so they have stayed in.

I’ve previously really liked fat 50s, 57/62s and Bareknuckle Irish tours.
