The humble 0-15

I once had a 1941 0-15, they were the days, and it was glorious in all ways. I had to sell it and been a bit gutted ever since

I seem to have almost replaced it with this Westside custom. It has the vintage correct shorter scale length which the standard 15s don’t have. Honestly it brings the tone to nye-on or near enough close to the old ones. It’s a pretty dam fine thing. I’m almost entirely sure the shorter scale length improves these 10 fold.
Also has a 3/4 nut width

A 3rd of the price, maybe a quarter and 90% of the voice, heavier but can’t have it all.

Very impressed
There ain’t nothing quite like a small Mahogany guitar. Especially when it’s built by the old Masters

I have one too and is indeed great. They’ve now been discontinued and are no longer going to be produced (at least for the UK). I spoke to Westside about it.

Am considering selling mine and purchasing a 00015sm instead - love a 12 fret. But it has a long scale, as opposed to the short scale on this one (which I prefer).

Would love to try one of the original 17 series one day!

Obviously Westside know their business but I thought they commissioned these as part of their distribution process. As they have done a number of Westside limited runs over the years. Although I expect a single O mahogany to be fairly niche guitar they seem to do a good job in nailing the specs players want on the Westside editions so may be they will bring them back another year. I think I shall be looking out for one as love smaller body acoustics.

Yeah, it seems like a strange decision on the face of it. But when I dug deeper, it’s driven by Martin and not Westside. Turns out Martin will now only do Customs or Specials for dove-tail joint guitars. Or for non dove-tail joint guitars, but for large order numbers, to make it worthwhile to them.

It would seem Westside perhaps doesn’t do the volume to hit that threshold.
Will be trying out an 00015sm on Friday. If I like it, I’ll be putting my 0-15m up for sale.

Different brand but the Guild M20, pretty much had the same specs as the Westside 0-15.

I love the sound of all Mahogany acoustic guitars, do not own one though. I might get the cheap all solid one at Thomann when it is eventually in stock.

Yeah, have heard great things about the Guild M-20. It's what Neil Young uses on Love and War and sounds sublime!
