What a week, two in.

I’d been looking into a nylon acoustics for a while. Tried to get a price for a custom Martin nylon based on the 60s 00-18/28G/Cs but it was like trying to get blood out of a stone. Spoke to Brook and they were really accommodating. Ordered last February and finally picked it up this week.

Aged tint sikta spruce top, rosewood back and  sides and ebony board. Schaller grand tuners and a K&K pickup.

Slotted headstock, slightly narrower nut at 50mm nut and very slight radius on the board. Super comfortable to play.

Top craftsmanship and great all round tone. My little boy is called Coda and even managed to get a little Coda symbol on it.

What a great start to the week I thought…..and then it got even better.

I’ve been trying various steel string acoustics as although I loved the sound of my reissue Gibson 1942 SJ-100, it was too big for me. Swapped this for a ‘65 Gibson LG-1 (now up for sale) and was enjoying this but was intrigued by some of the x brace models. Didn’t feel the modern LG-2 reissue last were cutting it but had really enjoyed the Atkin LG47s I had tried out and so nearly pulled the trigger.

On the side I’d been (gently) hassling a fellow fretboarder about this for a while but it hadn’t gone anywhere. Finally this week it managed to happen, a 1949 Gibson LG-2

It has that little extra zing, punch, resonance and is cracking. Credit to Atkin though, what I liked about their LG47 in terms of sound is apparent in this LG-2 so they’ve done a cracking job replicating it.

Decent size neck and bags of natural ageing.

An absolutely cracking week here!

Never played a vintage one but my Atkin 47 is going nowhere. Glad to hear the real thing ticks the boxes even moreso

The Brook is beautiful. Is that streaky, brainy back really mahogany?  The neck looks like mahogany, but the back like a rosewood or similar. No matter, it is a lovely guitar which I'm sure you will treasure.

Yup, you’re right. I was caught up in an SJ-100 world.

Love the Brook, mine’s about 6 months away.

What’s the process once ordered? Did they let you know once they’d started the build?

Nice. What did you order? I emailed them every month or so and asked for photos rather than them proactively contacting me

No that was me talking about the one I have on order :) but it does look like a Lyn or their dedicated classical is a Lynher. But Brook are very flexible so I think they’ll make a nylon string with any body shape

It’s a TAW. It was between that and a Lyn. Decided as my initials are TAW I’d go for a TAW and I can tell everyone it’s a signature model  =)

Where are you based? Happy to help if I can. But, I don’t have any idea about dates at the moment.

Probably best to move this to PM.

its the thick "soft V" that, when I bought it I didnt really notice, but since my op on my left elbow its become more of a pain (no pun intended) I spoke to Simon and said he take a look :)

@bertie ; with me it's been a chunky neck that I'd like to get down to a low profile. Possible? :)
