Just fancy ones of these - classic ibanez multi FX from the 1980's - anyone know anything about them or have one to sell? Are they much better than the pue5 (non tube) version?

OK, just bought the non tube version peu5 for £110 on fleabay.

Couldn't get the Spanish seller of the tube version on Reverb to sell it for less than 300 euros plus 50 euros postage - and I assume duty too on top of this - which seemed a bit pricey for a try out pedal, no matter how rare? And someone on eBay offered me one with USA power / step down for £250 - are they really worth it?

The tube version is the one people want (hence the price hike jump), I understand the 't' has two distortion circuits. I nicked the following comment from ICW so that's the place I would go looking for more info:

'The PUE5 Tube has two distortions-a "Tube" Screamer first, then a 12AX7 overdrive circuit (both stages set up as gain stages, not a gain stage and a cathode follower). There an IC with a zener clipping circuit around it, so it's a mix of tranny dirt and tube overdrive. (you can't switch the zener circuit in and out of the main circuit) It's not very dynamic, but with your guitar volume on 10, it provides a very good, compressed lead tone that's quite warm. It gets noisy when you have the Tube Screamer circuit feeding the 12AX7 one-but I like the over the top lead tone that results. It's brighter and punchier, though watch the treble setting-it can get harsh past 7 or so. It's by far the best sounding distortion I've heard in a multi effects floor unit.'

..non 't' has a compressor instead of the tube circuit?

I have a UE400 & AD202 and love them both to bits even though it's the distortion version (that everyone hates)
    .
But yes, go ask around on ICW. For a hundred squid though I reckon you'll have fun with it.

*All Ibanez fx are Maxon and Maxon make great fx.

Thanks! Gonna muck around on the non tube version first to see if it’s any good. Yes it’s got compression instead of a tube driver.

UE400 came in Distortion or Overdrive versions. Everyone wants the Overdrive because of the tube screamer thing. The distortion is a clone of an SD1 circuit if I remember. If you don't get on with the PUE, maybe look out for a UE400 Overdrive or the UE300 which has a tube screamer in it.

You are also up against the huge Ibanez following in USA, which distorts (no pun) the prices of the more desirable kit.

If you get chance to pick up an AD202 grab it, fantastic delay, as good as those Moog delays. Be interesting to see what the PUE delay is like.

UE400&AD are racks though. UE300 is floor.
