Something's bothering with my guitar (though it's possible that it's down to my hearing) - on certain notes it seems as though as the note fades, it's overtaken by a bit of a howl, and also a modulating whistling sound. It could be me or it could be the guitar, what do you reckon?

Here's a quick sample from a tune I'm working on, try not to become too focused on the quality of the playing please

Sounds to me like you're getting sympathetic vibration from the other strings. Either play more quietly or damp them with either hand. If that doesn't locate the problem, then  I'm out of ideas.

Thank you - it's not coming from the other strings (I damped them all out) but at least I know it's real  now and not just my hearing (I've had surgery in my ears and get a bit of tinnitus brought on by certain sounds).

    Thanks again.

I can definitely hear what you’re talking about. Don’t know what might cause it, but you’re not imagining it.

On the positive side, once you’ve got Daley’s Reel up to speed there isn’t time for any notes to ring out so it will stop being a problem ;)

To my ear it sounds like a bit of fret buzz over the length of the string (totally normal if hit hard) and maybe a bit of buzz on the front saddle edge (less sure of this).

Check relief, and if too tight loosen the rod.

Also, acoustics naturally hump up at the fingerboard end where the top starts arching over time. You may need to just lower frets 17 through 20 for example. I had to do a fair bit of this on my 25 year old Gibson.

I'm surprised anyone can recognise it at that...errrr let's be generous, at that "speed"!

You've no idea how much you have overestimated my fettling skills when it comes to guitars, something best left to a professional in this case!
