  • Aside from the others mentioned above (Marriott, Rodgers, Buckley ect.) I've always liked Daryl Hall for some reason... I heard "Man Eater" on the radio the other day and it blew me away.

She used to sing with Richard Thomson, didn't she? And lived in Heaton Moor near me... She's got a great voice.

She did and also had a duo with another folk guitarist, Clive Gregson.
Her live solo album is terrific and she's definitely one of the UK's unsung heroines!

Clive used to be a regular customer at my friend Arthur Bird's music shop, 'Guitar Player' in Rochdale (which closed in the early '90s). He bought a green custom built Tele from there - which IIRC correctly, was made by an English builder - I can't remember who.

I saw him (with Christine Collister) on Richard Thompson's 'Daring Adventures' tour playing that guitar.

Ah the memories are flooding back... I'll just open another Werther's Original...

Well done ICBM for Karen Carpenter!
To add further proof that great music is timeless, my 9-year-old daughter (more usually found listening to the latest chart, er... music) has recently discovered the Carpenters and has their greatest hits album on near-constant rotation in her room :).

And how did I ever forget...

    Jim Morrison

  • Elizabeth Fraser. I think she's amazing. To me, the Cocteaus were somehow beyond music.
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....
