I do think brass ones sound different though - I haven't done that level of analysis because I didn't think there was any point, the difference was clear and obvious. I'm not a fan, personally - although some people swear by them.

The only appreciable difference I've ever really found between bone, ebony, tusq and brass have been with brass. More metallic and sharp. Otherwise, on acoustics, the tonal effect of altering bridge pins is discernible, but much less than that from altering strings IMHO.
Massive disclaimer - tonal appreciation is subjective, individual, and depends on the fact that we all have different ears!
