From a tonal and a construction perspective, how do they compare?

    The Mosrite-like ones?

Tokai Humming Bird - the ones that are like a slightly 'Japanese-ised' Mosrite.

Or isn't that what you meant?

  • Ah, I was wondering about the Epiphone ‘inspired by Gibson’ range compared to the equivalent Gibson model.

That's an acoustic guitar. This is the electric guitar section :).

I'd be quite interested if they were going to do a proper J-160E with a magnetic pickup, but unfortunately it doesn't look like it.

  • Ah bugger, my finger slipped again.

Admin, can’you please move to the correct section and slap me on the wrist?

You can edit it yourself, which will have the benefit of making me look like a twit :).

I’d like some opinion on those new Epiphones too, however I fear they will be just yet another mid price so-so from the Far East
Although completely superficial and shallow, I can’t bide Epi headstocks. No.
I would immediately run one through the saw if it was ever forced upon me

Just because it says ‘Epiphone’? Harsh man.

I think it looks fine on some models, but not on others... not sure why.

    Right: J-200, J-45
    Wrong: Hummingbird

(And if extending it to electric guitars - right: Sheraton, Riviera, Casino, Les Paul Custom; wrong: Les Paul Standard, 335 Dot, Junior/Special, SG)

I understand that's just my opinion...

Curious to know why you think it looks ok on the J-45 but not the Hummingbird? Not disagreeing, just interested.

    I don't know!

I thought it might possibly be because there's an old Epiphone model - the Texan - which is basically a J-45. I'm not sure there's an Epiphone equivalent to the Hummingbird... but nor is there to the J-200 and the LP Custom, and I think it's OK on those. Likewise, because it looks OK on the J-45 it can't be just that it needs a 'fancier' guitar. (And the Casino isn't, either.) So really there's no logic to it.

I could actually live with it a lot more on a Hummingbird than a LP Standard or SG though.

  • Reviews of the new “Inspired By” models seem positive. I noticed that in some overseas stores they are being sold as Masterbilt rather than Inspired by. All solid woods, better headstock shape, Fishman Sonicore. I’m interested in the J200 and Hummingbird 12 String.
