Epiphone Masterbuilt Texan or similar recommendations.

What's Hot
I have a hankering for an Epiphone Texan but at £600 new it might just be a little out of my price bracket.  It looks like a small shouldered dreadnought to me but I have little to no experience with acoustics so is there any other models/brands that would get me near to the "Texan sound" or is it a Texan or nothing else?

I'm after something bright, punchy but gives a full sound when playing chords, some single note work too.  Think like Neil Young style strumming acoustic, my dad has a Taylor GS Mini which is nice but I find them a little too small for my fat hands so would prefer something bigger.

I would definitely prefer a solid top, not too bothered about whether the sides are laminated or not.  I'm looking at maybe a purchase as a crimbo pressie so not looking right away but if anyone does have a second hand texan that they can ship to the North East then please drop me a line.

Cheers!

You may be limited for options if you want the same scale length as the Texan. It’s 25.5.

There are plenty of decent slope shoulders on a budget but they mostly have the J45 length of 24 3/4. Sigma SG45 springs to mind at £450. Great guitar but short scale

  • Maybe one of the Sigma J-45-alikes would get you close? The Guild DS -240 is a similar shape, and seems to be highly regarded.
