Once the move is completed I'm fancying giving myself a couple of musical treats, I've already been in touch with some dealers about getting myself a nice fiddle and bow, but I also fancy an octave mandola, so was wondering about UK makers. I'm aware of Paul Hathaway, so was wondering who else is out there. I know there are a few, small makers who do them.

Fylde, Oakwood, Sobell and Phil Davidson spring to mind.

  • Worth talking to Richard Osborne, he makes beautiful mandolins, mandalas etc (as well as great guitars)

I totally forgot about this maker, I played one of his guitars in Wunjo about 5-8 years ago and it was exceptional.

  •  Mine was made by Robin Greenwood whose workshop is near Poole, Dorset. I’d highly recommend him and for hand made not overly expensive. He’s a nice bloke to deal with too!

does he have a website? I googled and he seems to have some pretty serious players using his instruments, but couldn't see a website.

He'd get my vote - though he's the only one I know!  Nice guy, builds all sorts, and knows what he's doing without shouting about it.  Naturally, I went out to see him one lunchtime, and left with a strange-shaped gig bag under my arm.
    :D
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.
