WTB Tele top loader bridge.

Hi,

Rescuing an old MIM Tele from the 90s and the top loading bridge is a piece of shit. Anything suitable out there? It’s a 3 hole bridge currently but shouldn’t be too much bother changing over to a 4 hole.

Cheers,
Dan

The Wilkinson vintage stamped steel style ones are drilled to string both ways.

Alternatively, the MIM bridge can be rescued with a saddle upgrade.

    Be seeing you.

Any links to suitable saddles? I guess the bridge plate itself isn't an issue its just the shitty saddles! Cheers,Dan.

Hi mate, thanks for going to the trouble of taking pics etc but that appears to be exactly the same bridge/saddles already installed on the guitar. Ideally, I’m looking to either replace with the modern type saddles or a whole new bridge altogether.

    Cheers,
    Dan

Thanks for the help guys bit ive just gone for a new Wilkinson unit. Will mean drilling 4 holes but that shouldn't pose a problem. Cheers, Dan

If it's a standard footprint you might well find that the 3 existing holes will not be covered by the new bridge

Is the Mexican bridge wider then?

No but it is longer, if you lay a Classic 4 screw, “screws in front of the saddle” Tele bridge over a 3 saddle “screws behind the bridge” bridge the 3 saddle is longer and as the front edge/pickup hole is a constant it’s the rear edge that’s the issue

    Hi mate,

Ive gone for one of these - https://www.northwestguitars.co.uk/wtb-telecaster-ash-tray-bridge-compensated-saddles/

Looks like I’ve got 86mm to play with. I assume the starting point is the same as it will be governed by the bridge pickup location.

Measuring back from the front of the current bridge to the back of the screw heads is 85mm !

  • Just updating this thread to say I have installed the bridge and it covers the old holes completely. Works a treat so all good.
