And as an update, Strings and Things are replacing it for me.

    Great service I'd say
They were great with me too. Good stuff.

The number of Hercules failures I’ve read about makes me a bit nervous, I’ve got a few that I’ll be replacing with String Swing. Less moving gubbins and the claws on the Hercules are hard plastic so I’ve managed to ever so slightly ding the back of the neck on a couple of guitars. I’ve not had one break touch wood, but I did have one get pulled from wall by the weight of my P Bass (to be fair the wall wasn’t in the best shape). String swings don’t stick out as far so there’s less leverage.

Just a pain that they have different screw hole spacing.

Hmmm - the distributor does seem to be replacing the faulty items - if the customer is persistent and happens to make the right contact.
It's not great advertising for the product though, is it?
I mean; it's only got one job to do, hasn't it?
    It's not rocket-science.
Fortunately, I've had an inherent mistrust of these and have never been inclined to buy one, so I'm not affected by the issue.

I’m in rhe market for a few hangers but yeah, this thread is making me very hesitant to go with Hercules.

What other (confirmed) nitro-safe hangers are out there?

I'm curious to know whether all of the failed hercules wall hangers are all the kind with the wooden back block that screws to the wall, or if the ones with the 3-screw triangular metal back plate are also affected.  I have two of the latter type bought way back around 2014 that have been sitting unused in a storage box and I was thinking of using them.

Hercules are not nitro safe. There has been plasticiser migration happening on the contact points of one of my guitars. It’s a 3 year old hook, so relatively recent model.

From what I’ve seen, it’s the short bit of pipe that connects the bracket to the wooden mount which fails, most commonly with a batch from 2017ish

I have a feeling mine will be OK.  They are of this design where the collar is welded to the mounting plate and the bolt through from the rear of the plate pulls the hanger into the collar and secures it.

Yeah @elstoof the pipe snaps and yes it seems to be a certain batch going by the posts on here. Strings and Things replaced all my hangers as I had more than one fail and they were all bought at the same time. I can't fault their customer service.
The replacements were the newer design and so far I've had no issues.

Ah, I was thinking of StringSwing!

I’ve had two Gibsons hanging off Hercules with no affect on the nitro. I’ve got red marks on the back of the TV Yellow headstock from where I left a Snark on it overnight, but nothing from the Hercules rubber after a year of hanging

I’ve had this type 16 years I think. Even the foam on the arms is still unmarked.

Where do the fault happen on these hangers? I’ve got 2 Gibson custom shop hanging on mine and this thread is giving me quite concern.

Although mine had failed, the design of the hanger seems to prevent a drop. The guitar was still on it fine.

Not a wall hung one but I've had a couple of Hercules floor stands.

The trigger mechanism on both failed within a few months, releasing a horrible, sticky goo.

These days I case when not playing

    :)

  • I have nine Hercules hangers on my wall, bought from different sources at different times.
So far, four of them have broken in exactly the same way as being discussed. They are the wooden backplate models.
No guitars have hit the floor. They just hang limply. I have replaced with new.
    Now I have another gone!
I don't put heavy guitars on them (my LPs are on stands), just strats and Teles.
I have repaired 2 so far with superglue and baking powder. Seem solid. I'm testing by hanging acoustics on them.
