Is this place becoming like Guitarist?

What's Hot
I mean as there are only so many questions and answers about playing a guitar, inevitably questions get repeated over and over.  Often within a period of a few weeks!

Guitarist, the monthly magazine, has been criticised for constantly regurgitating the same features, year in year out.  Are we, theFretBoard, now doing the same thing?
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. [Albert Einstein]

I think every forum is like that to be honest. Human nature being what it is it’s easier to start a new topic rather than search to see if your question has been answered. Just look at how many Peter Green tribute threads there were.

Was there a Peter Green tribute thread? Missed it and was going to start one...

I’d put it in the main guitar forum for maximum visibility :)

and in 11 words I’ve probably reduced my visibility....

There were a few new spammers/trolls trying that, but they've been ousted.

Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

He was a great guitarist, I loved his cover version of the Formula 1 theme tune, hadn’t heard of his demise though!

We are, and that's why I'm glad we still have Off Topic.

To be fair, a lot of the "simple question" type threads are started by new members who aren't to know if a topic has been done to death.  The search function is there but it's not that sophisticated (or maybe I'm not sophisticated enough to use it properly) and it's hard to find an answer to a very specific question.

Plus, of course, many a thread may start off being about something new.... then someone mentions Joe Bonamassa or relics or Chappers or shredders and the old debates get rehashed all over again.

At least it's not endless "Kirk or Slash?" threads anymore.

… especially if you are newb, unfamiliar with the jargon in which the tFB mob discusses guitar topics.

  • I think you have to understand the kind of community that this is. Then you'll realise it's nowhere near as classy as Guitarist ;)

    Bye!

People are willing to criticise stuff on here.  When was the last time you saw a bad review in a guitar magazine?  If Guitarist reviewed a guitar with a banana shaped neck they might go as far as say that the playing experience was not to everyone's taste.  No magazine wants to lose advertisers.
