Following my earlier thread asking (unsuccessfully) if any forum member had any experience of Frameworks guitars I decided to take a risk and buy one from a seller in Germany - a 2015 Modern Nylon Classic left-handed model.

These guitars are very rare on the second-hand market, particularly in left-handed form, and are generally talked about as being superb albeit very expensive. It cost nearly 3000 euro new and I got it for a little over half that. I took the plunge after agreeing  a short window for return if I didn't like it.

It is difficult to imagine how a stick with strings on can be so much better than other cheaper sticks with strings on (e.g. Yamaha silent, Aria Sinsonido, Anygig) - but it is.

From the moment I clicked the foam-coated metal frame pieces into place I immediately felt at home with it. The build is quality throughout with what looks like a 3-piece mahogany neck on the mahogany body - with an ebony fretboard. The pick-ups are RMC individually adjustable for each string (like the Godin Multiac SA). The electronics are from Noll, featuring a 3-band equalizer and volume control. The tuners are Frameworks branded Schaller minis - and they are positioned to not get in the way when playing but also easy to operate.

The feel of the frame was the biggest surprise. It appears to have been engineered to provide an excellent body balance and weighting, with the centre of gravity positioned to make for very comfortable playing at a variety of angles.The sound is clear and very natural when put through an amp and it plays beautifully. My only minor criticism is that the outer strings are a little too close to the edge of the fretboard.

    Stupid question to ask but the guitar has no soundboard where does the sound come from and how loud is the guitar played without amplification?

    The sound comes from the physical vibration of the strings between the zero fret and the RMC individually adjustable string brass pick-ups ( think, a bespoke variant of the RMC Pow'r Bridge G). Like, say, the Yamaha Silent guitar, or even a conventional solid-bodied electric there is no appreciable sound when not plugged in.

    I reasoned that, as it is amplified physical string vibration (like a piezo) rather than electro-magnetic vibration, it qualified for being in the acoustic forum.;)
