Cool. He's been playing a Sobell for some time so I doubt he's ditched it but cool to see him using a British built guitar

It seems that when Darell comes over for the odd gig, he is happy to use whatever guitar he can get hold of while here. After he got his first Sobell, he borrowed another one from Stefan ( Sobell ) for his next UK appearance. Not so far back, he was over again and Stefan took him two more guitars to choose from for a gig. After playing them both, he ended up buying both of them to take home with him. A great writer and performer..

Darrell is a long-time favourite writer performer of mine and I’m a very big fan of Alister Atkin’s guitars. Getting both in the same video is a treat. Thanks for posting @TimmyO.

I'd give my eye teeth to see him live - if anyone ever hears of him coming over, let me know!

Just had a look at the video clip: I am not sure that it is an Atkin, could be a Kevin Kopp 42. Darrell does own Kopp guitars. Both the Kopp and the Atkin feature the same type of banner/ script logo and despite the obvious difference both signatures look remarkable similar without close scrutiny .I think Kopp is still based in Montana. His guitars are some of the finest Gibson inspired instruments around. Would be nice to think it was an Atkin though..

Yes it’s an Atkin: you can see it clearly in this video, complete with comment from Alistair Atkin.

That’s great , quite an endorsement for Atkin. If I wasn’t sorted for a great slope shoulder, the 43 would be high on the list of options. That’s a great looking sunburst too.

There’s no question it’s an Atkin but I couldn’t see the comment from Alister that you mentioned until I realised you’d opened the link in You Tube.

I'm fortunate to own a Forty Three, and it remains one of the best acoustics Ive played. I fluked on it really, whilst on a Gibson/Martin search.... it was light years ahead and I love the relicing....

I had one as well - very nice, although the relicing on mine wasn't the best that I'd ever seen. I get on better with an SJ-100 that I now have, but I'd happily buy another Atkin. I love the story behind the Forty-Three as well.

Darrell Scott is a wonderful musician, I love his work. Stefan Sobell talks about him (and more) in this interview for my Luthier Stories series

Nice to see him using an Atkin too

Great Michael, an hour or two with Stefan is always a pleasure and very interesting. Without wanting to go off topic, I have just restrung my 12 year old Sobell (MS Adirondack / Brazilian ) this afternoon after working with other guitars all week. It always amazes me when I come back to it what a beautiful, powerful guitar it is.
