Martin 000-15s / 000-15sm differences?

So, I owned a 000-15s before and I'm close to pulling the trigger on another. I noticed with the inlays are a little different and there's a couple of frets before the body starts - are these the only differences? Any experience/advice? Thank you!

    00015sm is a 12 fret with 1 3/4” nut and slotted headstock. 00015m is a 14 fret with 1 11/16” nut. I’d love the SM, but I like 45mm nuts and a 12 fret would be a nice addition.

I had a 00015SML (left-handed version). The above spec comments are correct. Both the SM and M are also the nicest smelling guitars around! They also have the same no-frills ethos.

The 12-fret models should have a stronger tone at the lower end because the bridge is pushed slightly back and the body is bigger, I think.

  • Thanks everyone! Am I going crazy though, are there no S and SM? I thought there were S, SM and M. The 000-15S and 15SM are what I’m looking at. Thanks again!

Sorry - like me, I think others were assuming you were comparing the M (14 fret) to SM (12 fret). As far as I can establish, the S (also a 12-fretter) is a discontinued model.

A quick search through the specs and I can't see any noticeable differences between the S and SM (e.g. http://mandoweb.com/Instruments/Martin-00015S-12-Fret/1225  ) . I can only assume that the old S was replaced by the SM in Martin's range.
