Slide over here...

For years I had no idea what was required. I bought a heavyweight glass slide and was all over the clackerty, tinny and whiny shop. So gave up.

Later had more gear to work with and the luxury of having a designated guitar per tuning.

~THE EPHIPHANY~

A Telecaster
Open D (or G or E)
11/10s
High Action
Heavy Glass Slide
Session Rockette amp
(No pedals or compressor)

Result = Raucous grinding damn tone!

Yep - even though have some powerful Tube amps, the Session Rockette steps up to the plate the best...

Thing is - I want my Tele back to standard tuning but it is the only one in the collection that delivers the desired scorching hot rocking slide tone...

Slide guitar is a thing of beauty!
Compression definitely helps and the heavier strings and high (but not too much) action are important.

You just need to get the intonation right and most importantly the right hand damping.. which is a pig that I have yet to master.

You're gonna have a lot of fun :)

/\ if Seasick Steve can on only 3 strings then all bets are off to the technique! Sod the damping - just grind!
