I'm back from Berlin, having been for a truly brilliant three-day break there with my family.

On Tuesday, my dad and I went to the gigantic JustMusic shop on Oranienstrasse, which is six huge floors of gear porn. Each floor is enormous, with the third floor being entirely dedicated to guitars and basses. Here's some photos of that, for your delectation/the purposes of fapping yourselves into a coma.

Here's the ground floor:


Went up past the first floor (brass, strings etc), and the second floor (PA and recording gear) and then walked in to see this:


Then to my right a bit more, to see this:


Then I walked in that direction for a bit, only to look to my right a bit more:


Then I turned back and found the (slightly blurry, apols) basses...


Including a wall of Music Mans (Men?)


Then a little room off to the side unveiled its treasures:


This bit I nicknamed the Church of ENGL-land:


There were also two little rooms where they kept the posh stuff:



Wait, was that a PINK PAISLEY FENDER TWIN?

Yes it was:


So yeah... that was ONE floor, out of six. They were all that size.

    Cool stuff wot I played (only unplugged):

    - A couple of Esh basses, hand made in Germany. Never even seen one in the wild before, suddenly five appeared before my very eyes. Played their signature/tribute model for Peter Steele from Type O Negative, which was ace.

    - A Fender Bass VI, the new reissue. Really, really liked it - very interesting sound. Apparently there's a Squier coming out, which I am now extremely interested in getting. It was great, and I can see myself having some use for it.

    - A PRS Mira - always wanted to try one. Lovely lovely lovely.

    - An Ibanez Paul Gilbert Fireman - this was great. Very light and resonant, quite comfy and played really nicely. Good fat neck too.

    - An Epiphone Swingster with a Bigsby... I will concede, the Bigsby did suit it. Gave a nice wobble... I liked the sound and didn't even mind it in use, but I maintain that it is fuck ugly and that most other vibratos are better.

    - A Gibson Les Paul, signature model for Paul Landers from Rammstein. Pretty nice (finish felt a bit sticky)... quite light for an LP, and I liked the look and simplified controls. Played well (apart from the usual Les Paul problem of woeful fret access)

    - Squier Strat with lipstick pickups... my dad picked it up and was very impressed by the feel and in particular, the neck - I was too.

    So there it is. I'll do a thread in OT tomorrow with all my touristy pics as well. :)

    Any idea what the Pink Paisley Twin cost? My friend has a 1966 Pink Paisley Tele (ex-Chris Difford of Squeeze) and they'd make quite a pair.

    nice one Connor. I tried a Mira a little while ago and I agree - they're wonderful!

    I knew a bloke in the late 70s/early 80s bought a pink paisley Tele (although I never worked out why). That Twin would have been a perfect match

    Wow what a shop.

    I am a bit ashamed to admit, but I tend to check out where the local guitar shops are before I travel to cities on Holiday. (No I don't book places based on the quality of guitar shops, although based on that German one perhaps I should!)

    Helps you to familiarise yourself with the street layout before you arrive

    Thanks guys. I did look into guitar shops before going, this was the only one that really leapt out at me so dad and I decided to check it out. Mum and sister went shopping somewhere else :D

    Didn't see how much the Paisley Twin cost, although like others have mentioned it'd go nicely with a pink paisley Tele (of which my dad has one, the 80s Japanese reissue).

    It's that wall of amp heads that does it for me, never seen anything like that in a UK shop. I do work with someone who regularly goes to Berlin but that's for the art galleries and the best gay night life in Europe ( apparently) so he has never mentioned any guitar shops.

    Funny you should mention that... I walked past a (closed at the time) bar called "Bull" which purported to be a "gay fetish cruising bar". I took a photo of the sign but did not go inside. :D

    Wow... that is some shop...........maybe taking the ol' lady for a romantic weekend to berlin is not such a bad idea

    Altho the openly thing I saw, want & could probably afford was the huge wall pic of Ritchie Blackmore

    Think I'd be in there all day
