Wrecking or relic-ing

I’ve seen more and more guitars for sale lately that have had some aging ‘treatment’ for whatever unknown reason.
There is a J-45 just listed on a well known classified site that is a fine example of such work. What is wrong with everyone?!

I own one of the factory aged Martin Authentics (D28 1937AA to be precise). There’s virtually no artificial damage per se - it’s certainly
not making any kind of “road warrior” statement -
just all edges are rounded and the finish is way thinner than could ever be achieved on an instrument that was going to be required look immaculate for sale. It feels and sounds better than the equivalent non-aged model to my hands and ears, probably due to that thin finish.

I think aging by the builder is different aye. Some of the stuff that, for example, pre war guitars are doing is great but taking sand paper to standard guitars is something else

I just looked up what must be the J-45 you’re referring to. It looks utterly ludicrous and the description is comedy too. So it’s a reliced standard J-45 which is apparently now “better than a True Historic” .... despite not having the Adirondack top and braces, hide glue, vintage bracing etc etc.
