New playing style

For years I have been very firm on using my fingers when picking and a plectrum for strumming. I've been an avid (very bad habit) nail biter and so haven't had much in terms of nails to help with picking. This has changed now and I'm finding that I'm loving the sound of using my finger nails to strum instead of always relying on a plectrum.

Not only do I love the sound, but it makes it really easy when a song moves between picking and strumming.

I've certainly not given up plectrums, but it now feels like I have another sound to play with.

Anyone else gone through a similar thing?

I often do that with my sofa guitar (a blues box which I'm trying to learn some fingerstyle blues on), but I couldn't do it for any length of time. If I grow my nails for weeks I can shred them down to nothing in ten minutes of strumming.

I was surprised how quickly I got use to it. I lead the music in my church regularly and so now use this most Sundays. So far, no broken nails! Hopefully that'll continue!
