WTB: High output bridge pup for Strat (SD SSL-4)

Hi. Currently looking for a bridge pickup with flat poles and pretty high ouput. Don't really want to go for the hot rails look. Would consider a matched set but i don't have a huge budget either. Considered a Bareknuckle Sinner but it might be too extreme with my existing pickups (Pure Vintage 59's). I like the neck and middle but find the bridge too weak. Any help appreciated.

Edit: Now after a set of Seymour Duncan quarter pound SSL-4's or just a bridge and a neck like Ritchie Blackmore.

Cheers,

Dan

I have an Original 50's Strat with the same pickups, agree the bridge pickup is awful, (as IMHO most Strat pickups are) my favourite Strat bridge pickup is the Sinner, but it just didn't do it for me in this guitar, then a neck position Sinner came up on here, so I took a punt and tried it at the bridge, just the job! Love it, also rewired it so it had tone on bridge and neck, middle has no tone....
Neck Sinner is 15k as opposed to Briidge at 21.5k although neither are, IMO, as powerful as those figures would suggest...
Stranger from another planet welcome to our hole - Just strap on your guitar and we'll play some rock 'n' roll

Ah that's interesting. I may look out for a neck sinner then. I just always presume you should use them in the position they're meant for! Thanks for your input  ;)

Pribora voodoo,if you want  hot pups late 60s sound rather than modern overwound sound.
Not overwound quite loud with bite if thats what your after.
Dont let the price put you off -they certainly dont sound cheap and Im hard to please ;)

Are you looking for something that's just hotter, but still essentially Stratty? Or something that's hotter and also fatter sounding? Definitely rewire the tones so they are bridge and neck. A metal plate under the bridge pickup helps a little and is a cheap mod for about £5. Hot but still Stratty - try a Dimarzio FS1. Hot but warmer and fatter - try a Dimarzio SDS1, but only if the pickup cavity is deep enough (okay on many modern HSS Strats, not for vintage Strat routs which are usually shallower). Both Dimarzio's relatively cheap secondhand.

Rewire 7 way gives a big increase in tones, only needsa tiny bit of wire and a switch (or a push pull pot)

Thanks for the heads up on those Pribora pickups. Think i want something a litter more overwound though.

I think i want something a little more modern sounding and save the neck pup for a more traditional strat tone. It's just getting the balance right.
I fancied putting an old SD quarter pounder i have in the bridge but I'm thinking it might look a bit of a mismatch in the guitar (shell pink and mint guard). Unless i change all the covers and knobs to black which might look ok. I'll look into rewiring the tones. Something i never thought of, but i guess it'll have a little more guts that way. I'll check out the Dimarzios you mentioned as well. Cheers  :)

They sound interesting. What's the output on those?

Bearing in mind that these statistics mean nothing, OCP DG low output is between 9 and 10k, high output mode is approximately 14k.

For my tastes, 10k is fine.

My flat poles OCP DG is one-off customer order cancellation. I nabbed it in one of Ash’s clearance sales. If you know what specifications you require, he can build that for you.

That sounds good. I might look into getting one of those if nothing crops up in the meantime. Cheers  ;)

Anyone have any Seymour duncan quarter pound SSL-4's they're not using? Preferably just a bridge and a neck but can trade my Pure Vintage 59's for a complete matched set if that appeals?
