Applying nitro to ash for a 'knackered' sunk in finish.

So I bought a body off ol' Jooky a few weeks back and I may want to nitro it.


However I want the paint to sink in and look knackered. Could I just leave out filler & primer? Or would that be a stupid idea.

I'm after a 'Joe Strummer Tele meets bottom of the ocean' look.

    yes, best way to get the sunken look is to do it just with a few light coats with no filler

    the issue is getting your coats consistent.  if you are using cans keep them in a bucket of warm water  to ensure a nice flow

    I'm looking to make an Esquire type thing, but a little worn out looking and knackered.

    Plus I'm lazy and so less coats = less spraying!

    here is the one i have just done a couple of coats of nitro over mahogany then just a polish with wax 
    image

    it is very slightly orange peely, made to look worse by the flash. but if i started sanding back and respraying more i would be filling the grain more than i wanted.  it will level off slightly as it sinks in and thins out

    just remembered, on this i stained the body black first.   sometimes when doing a few light coats you don't get colour all the way into the grain, if you have to start doing more coats then the grain starts to fill up so the initial stain just added a bit of insurance against that
