A crossover nylon string is generally designed for steel string players and has a narrower nut/string spacing, a radiused fretboard and sometimes a 14 fret body.
What is your budget?
Not sure on my budget yet.
I have a local Luther, trained by Stephen Hills, and he turns out guitars for about 3k.
I like the idea of a guitar built for me, but I'm not sure if I have enough knowledge to get it right.
Definately leaning towards a flamenco guitar though.
I exchanged a few messages with him and played a guitar of his in London Guitar Studio. He's a gent and a fine luthier.
£3k goes a long way in the flamenco side of things and there are a number of sole luthiers who can provide you with a great guitar.
I don't know how much you know about the flamenco side of things, I can ramble on about things for a while if needs be!
Btw, I had a couple of guitars built by Spanish guys and even though I didn't speak a word of Spanish/they didn't speak a word of English I was really pleased with my guitars.
I am going to see him soon
I play 90% nylon these days and a lot of that is because when I first got my hands on a proper luthier-built classical it was a total epiphany for me; I had no idea they could sound so enthralling. If you can afford it, a luthier built guitar is well worth it. 3K will easily get you into that market, especially used. Nylons are total bargains when cmpared to steel-string.
