12 Fretters

Having just sold my M36 I’am now Left with 12 fretters. In the past I was always lead to believe that
12’s have less string tension .At the moment I’am finding the opposite.Something I never really noticed
in past.My fingers seem to be telling me different.?.or is it me.

I got my first 12 fretter this year. String tension certainly feels less.

the 'senior mo' for me is if I've not been playing for a few month and get the urge - my hands get outa shape - not match fit - it can take a couple of weeks of regular playing to get back to an acceptable level.
The 12 fret / tension thing causes a lot of confusion with some, it's just string gauge (and type = core wire diameter) over a given scale length. The 'fret count' is meaningless.

I was just wondering about that and was thinking the same, tension is just a function of string gauge and composition, scale length and tuning...

Could it be that 12 fret designs just tend for the most part to be shorter scale and thus lower tension?

That's got a 25.4" scale so it won't feet particularly low tension. But a lot of the 12 fretters out there are 24.9" or similar so that might be the reason for people saying they have lower tension.

yoo - a maple guitar - sounding like that !.

the the the 12 fret fingerpickers desiderata is the 000 model = 25.4 scale which would have exactly the same tension as a 14 fret Dread @ 25.4 - both strung with the same set strings.
