Hygrometer placement

Is there a correct placement for a hygrometer, ie does it matter how high it is in a room etc?

    I've just invested in one, the room goes to around 60% humidity through the day at the moment. Tends to drop on a night when the log burner goes on to around 50%.

    I tend to use 2 cheap ones.One the case and other in the room.
