Gibson LP Axcess

So I have been looking for one of these for a while, though the cost of them combined with the distance to go see one put me off , however I then located one just a few miles away....well how could I not go !

This one is the Iced Tea finish, with Chrome Floyd Rose tremelo, binding on the fretboard edges and body, the carved body on the back and rear of neck, coil taps and Gibson Deluxe machine heads and locking nut.

Im not a mad lead player, but this tone does prompt you to have good go, and low end chops really growl, then flick the coil taps and everything changes, some real light tones.

Clean sounds a great too, and again the coil taps do their thing adding to the variety of available sounds.

Combine all of this with the term addition and its a full package, the guitar stays in tune flawlessly, looks great and does everything expected of it for me anyway.

Minor niggles for me....Im not used to the toggle switch near the top, that gets in my way a little, and the term arm is slightly clunky in the hole, but that seems to be a common occurrence, that said if you buy a new one of the at circa 3k I wouldn't want that.

Ive only ever spent over 1k on one other guitar and that was a PRS 513 (I will review that also) but the Gibson is well worth it I feel, its does just feel like an expensive bit of kit.

Gibson. guff below.

Brilliant guitars. A rare example of Gibson getting it right in the modern era.

A good summary - pretty much ended my gas for Les Pauls, as my others rarely get played since getting the axcess.  So easy to play it almost feels like cheating and the upper fret access almost makes traditional LPs feel wrong.

    Lovely lovely guitar.

I changed the tremolo to a low profile floyd rose (The Floyd Rose Pro) which is more comfortable to play (for me). Also fitted the old style screw-in tremolo arm, which is a lot less wobbly than the newer type arms with the screw-in collar.

Also fitted a set of '57 Classics which make it sound a lot more traditional / classic than the high output 496R (Ceramic) and 498T (Alnico 15 kOhm) pickups

The chamfered neck joint is beautiful too.

Finally, the Floyd Rose Pro has a slightly narrower string spacing, which improves the alignment of the strings with the pickup polepieces (not that it makes a sonic difference).

Absolutely top notch guitars. Like John_P as soon as I got mine it ended my Les Paul GAS and that was almost 3 years ago.

I have the stoptail version, and it's the best playing Les Paul I've ever laid hands on by a country mile.

Currently looking into different pickups - but nothing else on it can be improved in my opinion, holds tune forever.

    A keeper for sure
