But yes a beautiful way to go for him, perhaps a tad traumatic for the kids

Ah no! One of my all time favourite acoustic guitarists and that's so sad and still relatively young too
I was lucky to have seen him at The Dominion in the mid-80s with his sextet which spurned a great live album "Live ..One Summer Night". This won't be for everyone but it's very emotional music and I love the use of the cajon and the electric semi-acoustic bass in this context, as well as the master's flamenco guitar - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ao3aaPNVAA
For us "westerners" he really came to prominence with the "Friday Night In San Francisco" live album featuring Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin and here he is with Al Di Meola on "Mediterranean Sundance" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlaCZ106b5w:

Ed Conway & The Unlawful Men - Alt Prog Folk: The FaceBook and The SoundCloud
'Rope Or A Ladder', 'Don't Sing Love Songs', and 'Poke The Frog' albums available now - see FaceBook page for details
I watched my Grandad have a stroke, he was the most important person in my life - was proud to be there for him. (aged 8)
I got home to find the family dog had been put down - three weeks later I found his collar on a shelf, and bawled my eyes out, it took me months to even mention it to my best friends and I was angry at my parents for many years. (aged 25)
Kids are very good at dealing with the realities of life - it's people sugar coating everything for them, that fucks things up.
ahh... very sad loss...
what a phenomenal player he was... absolutely on a level of his own..
really sad..
Nooo! That's far too young. He was an amazingly gifted player.

And the tributes continue to come in -

The TV over here in Spain is full of Paco concerts and tributes. Rightly so as it will be a long time before anyone takes a music form like Flamenco was in the days of Sabicas and elevates it to the level that he did. Without him the work of players like Vicente Amigo and Tomatito would have sounded very different to say the least. The fact that a player of Chick Corea´s status mentions him in the same breath as Miles Davis and John Coltrane is testament to how influential and important he is. So gald to have had the privilege to have seen him.
