Very sad. I saw some footage and he didn't look well and still relatively young, too.

As always, the wonderful music lives on and I know Steely Dan have done some shows without him so it's quite likely Fagen/they could continue, even if it's not quite the same.

Just heard - I'm glad I've seen them live once - would have loved to see them again but sadly that won't happen now - Glad I have so many great tracks to listen to them again and again and again - I can only thank them both for what they have recorded and such great tracks will never die - RIP Walter

    Very Sad News indeed.

Steely Dan formed the spine of my music listening from my early days to today. One of my great regrets is that I didn't see Walter & Donald at the Free Trade Hall Manchester back in the 70's.

Made up for it in their second flush in the 90's.

Although I probably falsely attributed a great deal of wonderful guitar breaks to Walter (which then turned out to be Larry Carlton et al), he had a wonderful laconic songwriting style.

    Will - Be - Missed.

    Amen Walter

  • Shocking news. He had been ill and missed two big shows on the East and West coasts.  I think Larry Carlton stood in.
I was hoping to catch them at the Bluesfest this October.

    RIP Walter

Steve Lukather's tweet has captured exactly how I feel.

Really sad to hear Walter Becker has passed...
Steely Dan music touched me deep. My desert Island music.
    RIP Walter.
    Condolences Donald..

  • So much a part of my youth and still love it today such great tunes.
I think Larry Carlton summed it up when he politely said Walter was never a really good guitarist by his own admission he got by.
But if I could write songs as great as he did why would you bother.

Gods house band needs some decent tunes RIP

Wow, I'm stunned by this sad news. Steely Dan were the soundtrack to my late teenage years and the major contributor to my own personal musical education. Learning to play along with their albums trained my ears and brain. WB was a great player and composer.   :'(

very valid comment regarding WB as a writer and guitarist - so many great guitar players inc Larry, IMO are mediocre song writers but awesome players - You need the likes of WB and others to write such songs with such a groove
