SOLD Matchless SC combo

Matchless SC Mini combo with a 12" 30 watt 8 ohm Matchless speaker

Powered by a 5AR4/GZ34 Rectifier tube. The 8 watt output is a single EL84/6BQ5 which is cathode self biased and is true Class A with a single ended output transformer.

The PreAmp input is listed as an EF86/6267 and it has a 6 position rotary switch sweeping from a thin to a fat tone (and it works amazingly well). The Phase Inverter is run by a single 12AX7/ECC83. The speaker inside is a single 12″ Matchless Celestion. I believe the cabinet is made of Poplar, which is a lighter and more ambient sounding wood instead of the more dense birch ply.

Weighs 16 kg and measures 46 x 24 x 44 cms.

I bought this from World Guitars in November 2015.  I love this amp but I have a hankering for something else and I'm a one amp in one amp out player.

    Hi. Difficult to describe sounds. I've had a few amps recently and this one, even knew and not broken in, hits the broadest range of tones of any I've had. The tone switch is an oddity (to me) in that it clicks through six positions but it does an amazing job going from a thin trebly tone to a thicker, fatter sound. The 'cut' doesn't do too much, to my ears until you get into break up (but it is subtle). If it didn't sell I would keep it quit happily but, as ever, I buy cool stuff that my ability doesn't justify (I just get a bit carried away then realise how much is tied up in gear). Trades are a definite option (another amp ply cash or a tele plays cash). Thanks

    I think it's a little quieter (but I had a red Junior a few years back now and I haven't done a straight side by side comparison). Matchless are loud though!

    Hi @markslade07. It is a loud 8 watts and has bags of headroom. I play with clean tones and it is very good for that. I'd say plenty for a small gig.
