NGD - not quite a telecaster

Picked this up earlier in the week.
A 2001 Framus Renegade fitted with lollar pickups.  Originally designed with no pickguard and as a HH guitar but I think the previous owners mods suit it very well.
Incredible build quality and plays and sounds amazing. The necks not too bad either.

I really like that, and WHAT a neck!  And it looks far better with that tort guard than it would have done without.

    Very cool - one of the nicest non-tele 'tele's' I've seen - HNGD 3
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

Are you sure that's not a rebranded PRS Myles Kennedy?

    Lovely looking guitar. Enjoy

Ha. I don’t think this one is anywhere near as ugly as the myles tele.

I bought it with the full intention of pulling the bridge pickup out and slapping a JB humbucker in but I’m going to give this lollar novel T a chance first.

Anyone else have experience of the lollar Novel T?
It sounds just a bit anemic to me, it’s missing something but I can’t tell what. Just have this impression it is, or perhaps there’s a trick to getting the most out of it?
Think the JB will have to go in and if that doesn’t work it’s going on the chopping block.

Does it have the right value pots for that kind of pickup? Just wondering if it's using the same electrics from before it was modded. They might be 500k or something and better suited to humbuckers.

I didn't even know Framus still made instruments.
I've got a very nice old Framus banjo.

  • @pluckbuddy yeah good shout, it could be the pots are 500’s. There’s no markings on them , they look small pots but feel quality and in keeping with the rest of the guitar so I don’t know if I’d want to change them.
I don’t really understand guitar electronics but it has additional caps in there so maybe someone has added additional so the pickups see 250?

Get it checked out with a tech if you do not know. I do not know guitar electrics either so I would have to go to a tech, or talk to ICBM or BillDL.

Additional caps might be treble bleed caps? To reduce the value of the pots from 500k (if that's what they are) to something like 250k, you'd have to solder 220k or 270k resistors across the outside lugs.

Might be worth getting a tech to look at it if you don't want to mess with that stuff yourself. On the other hand if the pickups sound way off what you want might be worth going straight to a pickup swap. A JB is going to have way more mids and power

    470k I think

I don't have the same Framus as that but mine didn't have a treble bleed as stock, it came stock with 50s wiring IIRC. The electronics on mine were all MEC, which I think are owned by Warwick/Framus.

They used to have the schematics on the Framus site for a lot of the old models, but they seem to have disappeared unfortunately.

    Awesome guitar btw :D
