Which metronome app?

What's Hot
Despite being a very average acoustic player, I've been roped into teaching the basics to one of Ms GT's colleagues. (She wants to use guitar playing to unwind from her stressful job.) So far so good. We found her a reasonable Vintage V300, and we're doing the usual chords. She's doing pretty well.

But I'd like her to practice chord changes, strumming and finger-picking with a metronome. We can use Garageband when she's at mine, but she needs something to run on her phone (Android).

Any suggestions?

I wouldn't know which app but I have a wooden pyramid-shaped metronome. Not seen it for years but it's here somewhere.

You can pick 'em up cheap.

    :)

  • I have the Pro Metronome app which is great as there's 12 different click sounds from cowbell to voice counts. And you can also subdivide and accent on different beats of the bar.

Better still when I teach acoustic learners strumming and alternate strums I use drumbit (type into google) which is a basic drum machine so the strum directions reflect the actual beat which makes it more musical than just a repetitive click.

Not for a phone but the best metronome I have seen/got is the one from BOUNCE METRONOME online

I got it cheap, for a song (facepalm) and the graphics and ground it covers is waaaay beyond

Have a wee look see for yourselves

  • I use the Soundbrenner Metronome app.  Lots of customisation options, free as well.

Yes, that's what I've done for a few of the patterns (using Garageband). I'll have a look at drumbit...

Yes, but every scummy SEO optimiser has made their vacuous bland-round-up site come to the top these days, so actual real-life experience is hard to find. Maybe my Google-Fu is weak? :anguished:

Cool - thanks, I'll check these on my old Moto.

@Hootsman - the first of those looks intriguing. Might be PC only - I will dig deeper.

Yeah with drumbit there's nothing to install as it just runs in the browser. Easy to key in specific patterns (Its a grid type layout with squares you press). Only works in 4/4 though but if that's all you need then you're all good.

  • The free Fender Tune app is pretty good, and has a built in Metronome/Drum Tracks etc.

I've been using the musicca drum machine lately - https://www.musicca.com/drum-machine
Bit more basic in terms of drums, but does have the option of a few different time signatures.

  • I use the D’addario D’Tools app.  It has a tuner, chord dictionary, chord finder and quite a high-featured metronome all in one app.

Ooh - I've downloaded four of the suggestions so far, and this one is floating my boat. I'll check the tuner later.

I use MetroTimer but on iOS. It gets used more for perfecting my putting tempo than guitar however.  :#
