Howdy all,

Please could I get your best recommendations for electro-acoustics south of £1000? £500 region preferred.

I'm asking for my friend's son, as I only really play semi-acoustic.

Faith have a few models in that range.  Happy with mine.

Low end Taylor - quality will still be perfect.  (Ditto).

Yamaha, I find their necks a bit skinny, but a friend’s son might prefer that.

If he’s in range of a decent shop, can’t beat picking up and playing a few.

Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

does he have a body size criteria ?  I realise that might not be something thats been considered , but  - size   as in  -  will a dread be too big  ?  will a smaller body  be too small ? Is a cutaway needed ? Is there something/someone he may be influenced by ?

just because you don't, doesn't mean you can't

I would say don't get too hung up on electros
I haven't heard a system at that price point that sounds great plugged in.
I much prefer the sound of a k&k pickup ( about £120) and find them pretty easy to install with clear instructions so I would be looking at how good the acoustic is rather than having electrics

  • He needs to play a couple and find the size he wants. I'd err on a smaller body size over a larger one. I'd also budget to install an after market pick up as most installed ones are nothing special.

Thank you all - I'm going to try and join them for the next guitar show to try out some gear. I know the boy has a back issue but likes to play a les paul seated, so I was thinking maybe a Guild M240e (similar feel).

I've mentioned all your suggestions to him and he has made a list. *He's a monster player on electric.
