What's Hot

edited December 2022 in Acoustics
As featured in their randomly timed new Netflix series trailer. So, what is it. I can't tell.  Make and marque please.

And what chord is it? I've just played it, and it made me cry. Sooo much    :-(

Answers on a postcard please.

Prize is 10 embroidered handkerchiefs. 5 for the guitar and 5 for the chord.

    On another note.

How does he manage to play the acoustic guitar so beautifully and hold hands with Meghan at the same time??

  • It's actually the secret chord, which David played and it pleased the Lord

The chord is a complex one and depends on what strings he actually plays. Assuming it is just strings 2 to 4 (open G)  then it would be E flat 6. Play any more strings and it just gets weird. Perhaps he is a freeform jazzer.

The Lord would probably not be pleased - but pretend he (she?) was to prevent being accused of being disrespectful.

The guitar looks a bit like a Baby Martin.

Yes, the guitar could be tuned to Open G. I'm familiar with the chord (in Open G) from the intro to Wiser Time by the Black Crowes. If you play it using strings 1 to 5 you get some kind of augmented Gsus4, I think.

Just wait for his signature model, they're using snowflakes instead of dots.

I just meant playing the 2nd string fretted at the first fret, 3rd string open and 4th string fretted at the first fret (standard tuning) - giving C, G, E flat - hence a chord of E flat 6th

    OK. Time's up.

5 hankies each to @GTC and @drofluf for spotting it's a Little Martin LX1. Didn't think it was a Martin headstock but it is isn't it. There goes the brand! (GREAT news for Taylor).

.......and 5 more hankies to @GTC for being so bang on about the chord. Cry your heart out GTC.

And, finally, 5 bonus hankies to @Grampa for totally appropriate suggestion for upgrade.

....and for jolly well making me laugh.

    :-)

So, nobody worked out how our Prince can hold hands with 'she who must be obeyed' whilst simultaneously playing that chord of his own majestic creation called "If this was a D18, I'd be playing A7".

(Proving once again, if proof were needed, that, even for cosmic royal megastars, things are sometimes a little hit or miss).

Good to see Gas prices are own 3% today! :-)  :-)

Perhaps Harry is seen by Martin as a lookalike replacement for Ed Sheeran, now he has moved to Lowden. Can't wait for his first album .. ;)

1: the guitar is a Martin
    2: The chord is A half-diminished.
3: Who is Harry Megan? Never heard of him.

The interesting thing about A half-diminished is that you'd mostly use it in the key of Bb, a traditionally difficult key for guitars. (That said, I use it a fair bit playing in G as part of a chromatic run. Its useful for turnarounds.)

He's actually trying to play something Andrew taught him: A minor

Well spotted! just playing the middle 4 strings and leaving out high and low e's you get A half-diminished 7th. You are right - it does sound nice and bluesy as part of a relaxed chromatic run.
