Slimline Nylon Guitars (like Godin Multiac)?

What's Hot
I really like the look of the Godin Multiac guitars - they seem to be close to the shape of an electric guitar but have nylon strings and are intended to be played through the pickup system. They are quite expensive though and, while I think they are high quality, some of that price must be because of the Roland Guitar Synth pickup that seemingly comes with all the model variations.

Since I have zero use for the Roland thing, does anyone know of any electric nylon guitars that are as close to an electric guitar as these?

I know Yamaha do the NTX range and other companies do guitars that are thinner than proper classical guitars but those all seem to be a bit slimmer, can't seem to find anything apart from the Godins that are closer to a Strat than a classical.

Cheers!

There's a nylon version of Yamaha's silent guitar. (No real acoustic tone, though, obviously).

Takamine makes some slimline acoustics but idk if they do a nylon or not in that range. I hope they do - the P3FCN is a stellar nylon which is very electric-player friendly on account of its less “traditional” neck/narrower spacing/nut. But it is deeper…

Not all Multiacs have the synthesiser access.  The bottom of the range (Encore Nylon I think) does not.  Generally, only those marked SA have it.  These are easily distinguishable by looking at the bridge.  Similar in style is a recent launch, the Cordoba Fusion.  I think Kremona also have something.  These will both be cheaper I expect.  Multiacs have gone up a lot in the last 6 months (what hasn't), and there seem to be very few available secondhand.

I never liked my Godin Multiac much, the feel was wrong

Do you mean hard-bodied ones? or would slimline hollowbodies be OK?

  • Have a look at the Cordoba Stage. Most retailers are out of stock but they will be back and they’re not as expensive as the Godin guitars.

    Yes, Cordoba stage, not fusion!

Might be outside the budget, but a Gibson Chet Atkins CE-AN is pretty damn good.
    Just saying  :3

I had an Avalon Nylon crossover model
It's designed to play plugged in, and has a narrower nut (and I think a radius on the neck)

I decided I preferred acoustic sounds and a 2 inch nut for nylon, but it would be very good for someone wanting a feel more like an electric

Crafter CT125n also fits the bill nicely, one of my most played guitars, lovely neck on them

I didn't go a bundle on the two Godins I had - they didn't feel quite right.

The best I've come across is the US-made Kiesel (formerly Carvin) NS1 - not cheap, around £2k+ new - but do occasionally turn up second-hand for much less

Check out the Chris George CE-N SOLIDO http://www.chrisgeorgeguitars.com/ordering.html about 7 down. I don’t recall the exact cost but I don’t think it was as costly as a Godin or Kiesel - having tried one I came very very close to buying one, the only reason I didn’t was I’d just bought a custom electric from him.

I think the plugged in sound of the Godins is pretty good. I never liked their electric guitars though. Back in the noughties they seemed to be popular with a lot of the WOMAD crowd.

  • I have a 40th anniversary Godin Acousticaster, which is a similar design to the Multiac models, albeit with an additional mini humbucker. It's steel string, rather than nylon though. I don't play it much, but when I do I'm reminded just how good it sounds. I imagine the Multiacs would be of a similar quality. I preferred the Acousticaster to the solid body Godins I tried at the same time. They were ok, just not that inspiring to play.

Sorry for such a belated reply but been caught up with a lot of things recently (there's been whole days recently where I didn't play guitar at all!).

Just want to say thank you very much to those who provided advice - pleasantly surprised to see there are more options than I was able to find :)

I saw a Harley Benton Nylon slimline in a guitar shop last week, didn't try it out
Looking online they are about £85 new, might be worth a try

  • Harley Benton do the Nashville at about 240 quid, similar idea to the Cordoba Stage but less than half the price.
