I've  use D'Addario Humidipaks and have for years.

Not saying they *can't* leak, just that *I've* had no problems with 'em.
Worth it or a waste? Worth it.

  • Do you replace every few months or can you "treat" them so they're re-useable?

From what I have read they changed the design of the outer sleeve to one which is waterproof so if the humidipak absorbs more moisture then it will not leak.  But from my experience from using mine for about 4-5 months they dry out more than you'd think.  But, if you notice the humidipak has swollen larger than it's original size, take it out and swap it out.

I think they are an excellent product and would recommend them to anyone who is thinking of buying them.  Also when they dry out they are very easy to revive.

Yep, as @earwighoney says, you can revive them.
What I do when they start to lose their liquid feel and start to thicken to the touch, is put new in and put the "old" in a cool place. They go liquidy again and you can re-use. There may be a limit to how many times (that I wouldn't know) but I've done it with the same pak twice.

  • Excellent - thanks, guys!
Did I read right, you have to lie your case flat on the floor and not standing upright?

I have them in my guitars with the cases upright.

Well the one at the neck end tends to fall to the bottom if you stand it upright

Hmm. I dunno about the headstock Humidipak falling if the case is stored upright. Wouldn't the headstock prevent it?

I lie my case flat so I don't need to worry about it.

    :)

I've never had any issues with the one at the headstock falling, as the headstock keeps it in place.

It was a Friday lighthearted comment to imply that the guitar wasn’t in the case at the time :)  I keep my humidipaks in the case for much of the year when the house humidity is level around the mid 50s as it has been for much of this year (apart from the last 3 or 4 weeks) and when the guitars are on the stand for easy access

i do struggle at the moment at this time of year in keeping house and room and case humidity down below 60%; I’ve got the dehumidifier running almost constantly it would seem

    @sev112 ; ah, now I've gotcha.

Humidity-wise, you'll struggle at times to hit your target (I know I do!) but relatively briefly too high or low is OK. As I understand it, it's only too high or too low long term that causes issues :)

  • I use them also, but just started a few months ago.
On month 3, it is possible to feel that the content of the pack is beginning to harden. But I understand that they are easy to rejuvenate. Guitar sounds great and the action hasn't changed at all during the changing of the seasons.

  • Yes humidity in my room is ~60% right now and seem to always need the dehumidifier on
