Just bought a Vintage Paul Brett Statesboro model Dreadnought in Whiskey sour. Not the best guitar in world especially compared to the Martin 00015m I used to own. The guitar was on display on a JHS trade stand along with Paul Brett and a representative from JHS. The guitar has been set up superbly by one of the guitar techs at JHS but letting it down I feel are the strings, it can sound a little dull on the low E and A strings. I know it has its limitations not having any solid wood in its build, but what strings would any forum members recommend. The attraction for getting the guitar was I got it for a good price and I’m really a electric player 99% of the time so wanted something cheap.

I’m a fan of uncoated 80/20 bronze strings after the dull off after a few days. Martin or DAddario. Can’t tell the difference. Put 12s on there to get the top working a bit.

It’s already got 12s on it. What would you recommend to brighten the tone.

80/20's are brighter than Phosphor Bronze.

IMO, D'Addario 80/20's are a good choice.  Cheap and last for a while.

I briefly had a set of D'Addario on a laminate Takamine and didn't get on with then as well as with Martin SP phospher bronze (or 80/20). For that guitar the Martins had a richer sound, and more low end. In contrast the D'Addarios were 'thinner' and less projecting - would be great for background rhythm behind a band,  but not as satisfying solo.

I would avoid phosphor bronze if you want a brighter sound.

D'Addario 80/20s should do it, as already mentioned.

Thanks for all the recommendations on strings I fitted a set o D’Addarios 80/20 and it sounds great. I’ve decided to sell the guitar it’s in the forum classified section at the moment.
