Above : First, the stars of the show for this batch: a matched pair of Oil City Masterwound Bean-0 humbuckers (reversed zebra).
The specs are pure 59 PAF all the way:Butyrate bobbins, hardwood spacers, rough cast alnico 4 magnets, 1018 steel pole screws,
wound with vintage spec, US sourced PVA coated plain enamel wire ... vintage spec braided hookup wire. Vintage accurate square cornered base-plates with tapped holes for the pole screws (just like they did it back in the day),
DCR 7.6k neck, 8k bridge.
Unpotted for maximum frequency response.
At the moment I have left these without finishing tape ... you can have them with 1/4 inch paper tape finishing wrap, exactly as if you had just taken the covers off a 59 set ... or I can wrap with rayon tape as modern uncovered humbuckers are. Your choice.
Alternatively I can pop em under a set of covers (modern US spec nickel) for an extra £30 on top of the asking price below (give me a couple of days to organise that. Alternatively you yourself could source some Throwback or Time Machine covers and pop em on for the full 50s vibe.
An uncovered beano set is normally £218.00
Boxed and guaranteed £150.00 Delivered SOLD

Above: an neck Oil City NightFighter Alnico 2 Custom. This one is in reversed zebra, short leg 50mm spaced, four conductor.
New and unfitted but with vintage style bobbins.
Boxed and guaranteed. Normal price £76.00
£50 Delivered    Sold

Above:
Second hand Oil City Buccaneer Wide Range style humbucker. (neck position)
This is somewhat a last chance to get your hands on a production Buccaneer. They have been out of my range for a while as they are simply not cost effective for me to to make. I have occasionally done them to special order since they were dropped ... but I may not do that again.
The spec:
Hand made bobbins and reflector plate ... a more balanced 9k DCR than the Fender vintage or reissued versions, proper single magnet per string construction (dummy screw heads ... these are not height adjustable poles ... same as all of my Buccaneers). Four conductor output to allow coil splitting. Full size wide range cover and four screw height adjustment (imperial thread)
Used but factory serviced and guaranteed.
£80 delivered

To continue the theme ... an Oil City modified Fender reissue Wide range neck pickup
Used condition.
This was an experiment in raising a fairly average sounding Wide Range reissue to Oil City Buccaneer spec. To that end it was fitted with slightly degaussed alnico 2 magnets with dummy slots. It sounds considerably better than it did, but not really as as close to a 72 wide range/standard Buccaneer as I would have wanted. DCR is fender standard 11.4k as the bobbins were not rewound.
Standard 2 conductor modern Fender cable.
£45.00 delivered

Oil City Wapping Wharf tapped Tele bridge pickup
This one needs little introduction as it's one of my most popular pickups
Used but factory serviced and guaranteed
£55.00 delivered
Professional pickup winder, horse-testpilot and recovering Chocolate Hobnob addict.

Any chance of a suitable bridge pup becoming available to go with that Nightfighter?

every chance of several ... the bobbin match may not be exact as I don't use that brand of bobbin any more, but I have several reverse Zebra bridge pickups in storage.

Great thanks. I'll take the neck one, but could you pm me what my choices/prices would be for pairing it up?

Is that a gold finish on the Buccaneer cover.......or just the reflection of the table?

  • Is the Wapping Wharf still available? And if it is would you be willing to ship it to Ontario, Canada? If so would you please let me know what the full cost would be with shipping and what forms of payment you accept.

    Thanks.

A very lovely customer of mine, who sadly died fairly recently, recorded hid best work at Wapping Wharf studios. Chris Slack was the guy who originally ordered a custom pickup from me to make the tones he heard in his head ... the Wapping Wharf was the result. The name stands as a tribute to a truly nice man and a good customer.
