I have a Martin D28 and fancy a small body mahogany guitar to compliment it and help me focus on fingerstyles, looking at the Sigma 000M-15.

Any views on this Sigma model?

  • Not familiar with the sigma. Guild do some in the GAD series. I've played 2, one was ok the other was excellent.

  • I have a Sigma 000M 1ST, and it's really nice. It's everything I could ask for in an acoustic but for a really good price. The tuners are a bit naff but they work well enough.

That reminds me, I need to get some new strings.

I tried one of those mahogany Sigma parlour guitars when I was on the hunt for a small bodied acoustic and I must say it was quite impressive. Had the sound and feel of a more expensive guitar. Although I did end up getting the more expensive Eastman E20P, but the Sigma was a nice guitar, well worth considering.

  • Try a Guild or alternatively a Taylor GS mini.
If you have the cash the Martin 000 is excellent. I've not as yet played a sigma better than these

  • What's your budget?
    Faith do this for £400:

If you're not fussed by a laminate back & sides, the Vintage v300mh is rather good despite being ridiculously cheap. £169

  • No real budget but not ready to pay Martin prices so a few hundred up to 700-800

I've had a very quick try of  the Sigma. I found it pleasant enough but it didn't bowl me over at first pick. Had I spent more than five mins with it it may have grown on me.  However, I'd definitely try it, as you may well connect with it.

  • if your lucky with that budget you might find a 60's guild or epiphone,, as well as something with martin on the headstock, if you are prepared to wait it's suprising what can turn up, I was looking for something similar & eventualy found a 1966 epi cabalerro, good luck in your quest, mike b.

  • The recent Guilds I've played (including an all mahogany one) seem to be voiced rather more brightly that the American originals.

The mahogany Sigma I tried sounded stunning for the money....

I've got a nice used Vintage VEC501MH I'll sell for £100 plus shipping.  A bit lower than normal as it's a factory second with some fading on the front.  It plays and sounds fine though with no issues.

I have the Spruce soundboard counterpart.  It's majestic.

The Sigma is a very nice guitar. If you can find one try the Alvarez AF66SHB. I tried a few of their guitars at the London acoustic show and loved em.
