Oiling an acoustic?

What's Hot
I gather that a manky fretboard can be rejuvenated by applying a little lemon oil. Does the rest of the guitars wood need to be oiled at anytime during it's lifetime. I like the smell of my cricket bat.....could I put linseed oil on my guitar?

The oil is for the unfinished parts like fretboards that may get dry, linseed is a bit thick. So no, unless you have a Musicman style tru oil waxed neck, you don't.

Raw linseed could be used but takes ages to dry so I don't use it.
    Boiled linseed is better.
Lemon oil is my preferred option.

As Winny says you shouldn't need to oil any other parts.

Linseed can be sticky and attract dust but, you're right, it smells wonderful.

If the fretboard is really manky, you might want to give it the lightest rubdown---only between the frets, not on them-- with the finest grade wire wool you can find......then a small amount of lemon oil, applied with fingertips, then rubbed off with lint free cloth. Been doing that for years...works for me. While you're doing that, get a pencil and work some lead into the nut slots--wipe clean and drop in a tiny bit of lemon across the slots too.
