I wonder how much of a tonal effect that finish has.
    I am betting 'a bit'.

Do you not want your guitars to sound good then?

Obviously not - it's a Gibson acoustic, after all!

    ;)

Despite it sounding this bad (see video below) I'd still own it - it is easily the coolest looking instrument I've seen in a long while.

You won't understand - you had/have one of those ergonomic things that looks like a stick poked in to a bedpan right? ;-)

It is one guitar out of the 20 or so that I own, yes. :)

What I think you'll find with that much finish on a sitka top is it will raise the resonant frequency and make it sound pretty thin (that comes across in the video, although I'd want to hear it in person before completely dismissing it).

But if you want it as a lounge ornament and not actually ever play it then I guess it will be fine. :)

Thin isn't what I thought listening to that demo (on good headphones) - it sounded thuddy on the low strings and just a bit meh in the top.

That sounded like I'd expect a J45 to sound, to my ears. Gibson acoustics tend to be voiced very differently to Martins - a friend owns an epic '64 J45, which he bought new. It's an exceptional sounding guitar - but the one in the video sounds like it's quite similar.

I like J45's and I love goldtops - it's a win for me.    Buy it!

Sounded just like a standard J45 on that vid to me. But regardless, you don't buy a guitar like that for tonal nuance, you buy it because you think it's the coolest thing ever.

... which it unarguably is :-)

Better with the cream guard as per the vid I reckon...

It's probably the combination of mild-colourblindness and an uncalibrated monitor, but that really doesn't look any more golden than my cedar top acoustic does  :-?
