I believe the MKii came after the 20th anniv and is different in a number of respects, including the core clean sound - Google will tell you all you need to know about the differences I'm sure.

I was thinking about the 20th anniversary version but I gather it doesn't have the ironman II bypass feature which the mk2 has so I think it'll have to be the Mk II version Just thought I'd clear that up

  • I've got the mark 1 an have to say it's a truly ace amp. I have an original 66 fender Princeton and I've been looking for something a little bigger for ages. It's sounds great on both channels, that now really any help with your search for a mark 2 but you'll be a happy bunny when you get one

Thanks. Ive been talking to someone on the sale of their mk2 but logistics of picking it up is proving difficult. Definitely looking for the mk2 though for the attenuater

I have a 20th anniversary and I got a kit from Tone King to add the attenuator bypass switch from the mk2. About us$90 I think.

Sorry to hijack - but would this work with a Mk1 Imperial + external Iron Man 2 (mini)? :-)

Not sure if you'd be interested but I have a Tone King Metropolitan head which I might consider letting go. It's 40 watts rather than 20 watts but has separate attenuators for each channel. From what I've read/heard of the Imperial, there should be alot of overlap between the two in terms of the tones available. Maybe someone with experience of both could chime in.

@eric If it was the combo version I may have been interested. Not really into heads and carrying their cabs around. Th`inks for the offer though

I mean if you find the MKii isn't as good as you expected and start wondering if a 20th anniversary would have fitted the bill. Doesn't everyone lust after amps from time to time?!

Lucky you. I've been looking for one of those tweed finishes. I guessed they must have been a limited run due to their rarity

They've got two of the tweed ones in Andertons and they're £100 less than the other colours so I'm not sure they're that rare.

I don't have a link, but I saw it on the tone king facebook page and registered my interest. Mark had a load of pcbs printed up in a one off run. I think only about a dozen people bought it from the facebook page. You can email Mark directly off the website and he always responds promptly and helpfully. I think I just paypalled the money and the kit turned up a week or so later from the USA. It has all of the parts in it. I have a feeling it also updates the attenuator although don't quote me on that one.

I got it fitted at vyse amps in pinner. Having said that, they managed to make an error in the install, but didn't apologise which put me off them a bit (I had to repair it myself by facetiming Mark Bartel to troubleshoot it).

If I had tried that at first I would have installed it myself as it wasn't very hard (if you are fairly familiar with a soldering iron and a multimeter to make sure the caps are discharged)

@edboogie No idea, but email Mark

I rationalised my amps to just a MkII - really excellent bit of kit. And I can confirm Mark Bartel is really quick and helpful for any queries.
