*SORTED* WTB An amp with Power Scaling (OPR, VVR)

Hi, I'm looking to spend up to £400 on a amp with power scaling so I can play at low volumes, wanted to see what is out there before I buy a RAT Tube 20R.

I'm near Kingston-upon-Thames, and would prefer not to travel past London.

Thanks.

The Carvin I'm selling (link in my sig) is switchable between 100w, 50w and 25w, if that grabs your fancy?

I am specifically looking at power scaling, as even 25W is too much. I want to get full tube saturation at bedroom volumes, so apart from modelling, I think this is the best way to go.

How would a Marshall SL5 work for you? 5 watt or 1 watt setting, full tube, with reverb and I just happen to live very near to Kingston!!

That might work, how quiet is the SL5, can you get a good distorted tone at low volumes?

@olafgarten - I guess it's all subjective, but yes, I think it's very good at all volumes. Happy to arrange for you to try it out with no commitment :-)

Where are you, how far from KT4?

I'm in Surbiton, but if you're around Worcester Park that's also easy since my Mum's in Stoneleigh so should be easy to arrange something as I'm over there a fair amount

I have a RAT modded Blackheart Little Giant head that I would sell.

It has Andy's usual array of mods -  power scaling, switchable EL84 /6L6, Switchable silicon/Valve Rectifier, Effects loop with level control.

Let me know if you want further info/photos etc.

How much would that cost me? Does it have fixed or variable OPR?

    Variable OPR.

I'm in N Ireland, how does £220 ppg inc shipping sound? - I have the original box that Andy shipped to from Cornwall.

Do you by any chance have a cab to go with this.

I have the BH5 head RAT modded by Andy too...they are superb with these mods. Runs thro
a 1 x12 Blackheart & sounds great. However, if I put it through an engl 2x12 with V30's it sounds immense.
You would not think it the same amp. So go for the head if it suits but look at what other options you can have cab wise.
Sure there will be some great advice from the guys on here. Some 1x12's will sound way better than others.
IIRC the Blackheart cab has an eminence speaker which I'm not sure is that a favourite with the chaps on here.

What kind of tone/sounds are you hoping to move thro the air ? That will help with choice of cab.
Plenty of 1 x 12 around to choose form that's for sure.

I will mostly play classic rock, or cleans, but sometimes also some Jack White like tones.

I will mostly play classic rock, or cleans, but sometimes also some Jack White like tones, probably with a pedal.

Sorry, I didn't have a cab to go with it. I used one of my Egnater 1 x12 Rebel cabs which sounded good. The Montage cabs from Lean Business look like good value with a wide range of speakers.

The other great thing about the RAT modded amps is you have 4/8/16 ohm speaker inputs so you can choose anything cab you want.

I think i'm going to buy the Harley Benton 112 with the Vintage 30. I'll decide within the next few days, and then buy your amp.

    Thanks anyway.

My DZ-30 has London Power PS, but is unfortunately (for you) a little over your budget!
