PRS S2 Standard 24 £888 at PMT

What's Hot
It's a pre-order which is a bit weird, but great deal anyway:

Agree - A bit unusual to have such a crazt deal but none in stock and pre-order as such

But a hell of a lot of guitar for that price - Understated appearance but you'll find great performer in there

The S2 Standards are great - SG killers IMO :-)

Another overstock deal no doubt that must be still inbound, hence the preorder?

  • Must be a mistake, surely? If I didn’t have an S2 24 sat next to me as I type this I’d be jumping on it. I’m still tempted…

Stupid question from someone who isn't familiar with PRS models and their history, but why do most 24 fret PRS's have a trem whereas 22 fret ones don't? I'm somewhat on the market for a 24 fret SG, but the ones that match that from PRS always seem to have a trem which I don't want.

It is the history.  Their original models were all 24 frets, but they started moving towards 22 fret models to get a fatter, more Gibson-like sound.  That went with a move to fixed bridges as well on a lot of models.

They still do trems on quite a few 22 fret models, but fixed bridge 24 fret models aren't common.  The original PRS Mira was 24 frets, and might well be what you are looking for if you can find one second hand.

Agreed, but the S2 Mira (22 frets) is better.   Still only available secondhand, unfortunately.  But yes @carlos, if you want 24 frets it'll be a core Mira.

  • I ended up not liking the satin as much as the gloss but my S2 Standard 22 is my most played guitar right now.  That forearm bevel is more comfortable than the core carve.  One advantage of the satin models though is they're even lighter.  I know PRS are known for nice tops, bird inlays etc, but the S2 standards are really good guitars.  Pickups can be easily changed if you don't like them - I swapped my neck pickup out for a Duncan A2 Pro, but I liked the bridge unit enough to keep it.

Agree.  I'd go for the S2 any day, but I don't like 24 frets.  It was the 24 frets that put me off the Mira when it first came out.  If it had been a 22 fret guitar, I probably would have bought one.
