Gretsch Masterbuilt Steven Stern review.
I’ve had the 55 Stephen Stern 6120 for a few week now so thought I’d share my honest thoughts,
Not going to beat about the bush these things are ridiculously expensive imo but boy oh boy it rings like a bell and sounds fantastic with a nice low action. The body is really light weight and the relic/acting job is beautifully done with taste over the AAA grade maple.
SeymourDuncan's custom shop version of the American classic Dynasonic pickup.
This guitar was custom ordered to have a white falcon scale length which gives you higher string tension producing a strong and focused sound with great low-end clarity.
The only thing I would say from my experience with gretsch Masterbuilt guitars is they seem to like leaving the back of the necks all new while relicing the rest of the guitar which I find a bit odd and I find the finish a bit thick to start with but they will play in soon enough I guess.
I’m starting to go away from old gretsches due to common issues and think these custom shops are the way forward imo as you get the mojo of an old guitar but the build quality from a top luthier and the reliability of a new guitar.
